Over the past week or so, we have been experiencing some extremely cold temperatures. We have a few recommendations for our diesel owners that might come in handy the next time it gets really cold. Our parts department offers a few different products that will keep your diesel engine running correctly in the extreme cold. When the temperature gets colder and colder, diesel fuel will begin to change. The normal consistency of diesel fuel is a liquid like regular pump gas. But when it gets really cold out, the diesel fuel will begin to gel up. It becomes thick and will clog up the fuel filter. When that filter becomes clogged, the vehicle will not be able to start. Here are a few things that you can add to your diesel fuel to help this from happening.
FUEL MAINTENANCE ADDITIVE
1. Fuel Maintenance
- cleans and prevents injector deposits formed in high pressure common rail systems
- robust synthetic ester lubricity improver reduces pump and injector wear and protects injector systems.
- prevents fuel system corrosion due to contamination of water or other corrosive compounds in the fuel. Not all competitor formulations offer corrosion protection.
- Compatible with Diesel particulate and other emissions control systems
- Restores lost horsepower and fuel economy
- Reduces cost of maintenance and downtime
FUEL CONDITIONER ADDITIVE
2. Fuel Conditioner- Diesel fuel stored for long periods can become unstable and break down, forming gums that clog fuel filters and create fuel injector and combustion chamber deposits
- Stability additives prevent fuel degradation during storage and use.
- Increases Cetane up to 7 numbers, improving combustion and temperature start ability
- Provides the same product benefits, listed above, as the fuel maintenance additive
- Compatible with Diesel particulate and other emissions control systems
FUEL COLD FLOW ADDITIVE
3. Cold Flow Additive- Diesel Cold Flow Additive functions as a wax modifier to improve the low temperature operability of diesel by lowering the Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP)
- The CFPP is the temperature at which the wax formation in the fuel in cold temperatures will start to plug the fuel filters leading to operational issues
- Lower Pour Point to prevent fuel gelling in cold temperatures
- Inhibits fuel filter icing: Prevents fuel filter plugging in cold weather
